History of Michelin Tires

Michelin has been a part of the tire industry in the United States since 1907 when it purchased the International Rubber Company in Milltown, New Jersey, and Michelin North America as we know it today took form 1950 when five people started Michelin Tire Corporation in New York City.  The company grew slowly for its first few years, then skyrocketed in the 1960s when both Ford and Sears selected Michelin to be their provider of radial tires.  Michelin led a virtual revolution in the transportation industry with the introduction of the radial tire, and continued expansion through the 70's and 80's with new plants and an increased work force.  In 1989, Michelin purchased the Uniroyal-Goodrich Tire Company, making Michelin the largest tire company in the world.
