The earliest roots of the Buick Enclave trace back to the 2003 Detroit Auto Show, under the moniker of the Buick Centieme concept car.  Buick engineers mulled over the design for several more years, finally unveiling the actual Buick Enclave Concept at the 2006 North American Auto Show. The new full-size crossover SUV made a big splash at the auto show, with golf star Tiger Woods on hand to introduce and endorse the new vehicle.

After its successful buzz at the 2006 Auto Show, the Buick Enclave went into production for the 2008 model year, replacing several existing vehicles on the Buick line:  the SUV-based Buick Rendezvous and Rainier, along with the minivan Terraza.  The Enclave was intended as an entry-level luxury vehicle, and it provided many upscale features at a reasonable price tag. The 2008 Enclave was based on the all-new GM Lambda platform, offering a 275-hp 3.6L V6 engine, 6-speed automatic transmission, and available in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.  The crossover seated up to 8 passengers, and earned the highest safety rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Two trim levels have been offered throughout all the model  years, the CX and CXL, each offering plenty of first-class options and features.

First year sales of the Enclave were strong, and in 2009, a slight engine upgrade was offered, increasing both horsepower and fuel economy. The Enclave continued to perform well through subsequent model years, praised by consumers and critics alike for its luxurious roomy interior, veritable performance, and one of the quietest vehicles available on the market.
