The Buick Lacrosse | Chicago Buick Dealer

Buick first introduced the Lacrosse for the 2005 model year. This mid-size entry-level luxury sedan was a replacement for the Buick Century and Buick Regal.  The name was borrowed from a Buick Lacrosse concept car that Buick had unveiled in 2000 at the Los Angeles Auto Show.  While that early concept car did not bear any resemblance to the actual Lacrosse, Buick carried over the name as a nod to the sports game, attempting to give the new sedan a youthful and energetic image.  While the name jumpstarted an interest from a new younger demographic, it unfortunately had an unfavorable translation into French, so Buick marketed the vehicle in Canada as the Buick Allure.

The first-generation Buick Lacrosse was available in three trim levels, the CX, CXL, and CXS, with either a 3.8L V6 or a 3.6L V6 engine, plus automatic transmission across the board. The Lacrosse provided a powerful and luxurious ride, taking the torch from its Century and Regal predecessors, but with a new modern look.

In 2008, the Lacrosse received a minor facelift, with a front end redesign, new body color choices, upgraded standard equipment like remote start, chrome exterior trim, and dual-zone climate control, along with luxury options like an anti-theft system and driver information system.  This year also saw the introduction of the "Super" trim level, a high-performance model boasting a 5.3L V8 engine, leather interior, and sport-tuned suspension. While only around for the 2008 model year, the Buick Lacrosse Super made its mark in history as the fastest modern production Buick ever built, with a top speed of 150 mph.

The second generation Lacrosse arrived as a 2010 model, built on a new platform with a 2.4L Ecotec four-cylinder engine as the standard, with optional 3.6L V6.  It was at this point that the Lacrosse shifted from being Buick's entry level lexury sedan to hold the spot of its flagship premium sports sedan.  The 2010 CXS model was also the first North American car to incorporate a front suspension design called HiPer Strut, which improves ride and handling and reduces torque steer.  Continued updates on the second generation Lacrosse bring us to the 2012 model year with the option of eAssist technology, which uses electricity along with the gas engine to boost fuel economy to a class-leading 25 mpg city and 36 mpg highway.
