The Chevrolet Avalanche | Chicago Chevrolet Dealer

Chevrolet first launched the Avalanche for the 2002 model year.  This four-door crew cab pickup was based on the long-wheelbase chassis used on the Chevrolet Suburban, and provided a unique combination of an SUV's comfort and passenger capacity with a pickup truck's cargo capabilities.  What set the Avalanche apart from its predecessors and contemporaries, however, was its innovative removable "midgate," a divider between the rear passenger seat and cargo bed, which enabled the vehicle to instantly transform from prioritizing passenger load to cargo load.

After earning the Motor Trend SUV of the Year award in 2002, the Avalanche enjoyed consistent success but was redesigned in 2007 to keep up with changing trends.  The second generation Avalanche offered more power on the GMT900 platform as well as additional style, cosmetic, and convenience upgrades.  Notably, the new Avalanche did not have the side body cladding that had caused some cosmetic problems on the first generation models. Later models included options like a Z71 off road package, a Vortec 5.3-liter V8 engine compatible with E85 ethanol, and trim levels of LS, LT, and LTZ.

The Avalanche was and is currently offered in both a light duty 1500 version and a heavy duty 2500 version, the latter of which has a more powerful engine, larger gas tank, and increased towing capacity. All models boast excellent handling and safety features, and this truck is a great choice for drivers looking for a jack-of-all-trades vehicle with both power and comfort.
