2012 Hyundai Accent vs. 2012 Nissan Versa as reported by Edmunds.com
  • The Accent "humiliates the Nissan in every performance category."
  • "The Accent is one of the most confident-handling and best-riding subcompacts ever built."
  • "The Accent is quicker and drives better. But beyond that, it looks and feels better, too"

MORE INFORMATION

PERFORMANCE

The Hyundai Accent was fully redesigned for 2012 and features a 4-cylinder 1.6L Gamma GDI engine that generates 138 horsepower.  This is a full 25% more power than its predecessor, not to mention the best in its class.  The Accent's powerful engine also employs Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing to help improve torque and enhance fuel efficiency for significant savings at the pump.  You have your choice of a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission, the latter of which comes with two key features:  SHIFTRONIC® and Hillstart Assist Control.

SHIFTRONIC can operate just as a conventional automatic transmission, but it also gives the driver the option to override the automatic mode and control certain transmission features manually.  Hillstart Assist prevents the car from rolling backward on an incline when the driver's foot moves from the brake to the gas pedal, and it's hard to find this feature standard in the compact class.

Perhaps the most striking feature of the Accent's performance is its amazing fuel economy.  Many factors work together to achieve this fuel economy, including the Accent's Active Eco System, its aerodynamic design and strikingly low coefficient of drag, and its low rolling resistance silica tires.

SAFETY

The 2012 Hyundai Accent may come in a small package, but there's no small about it when it comes to safety features.  For starters, the Accent is equipped with 6 airbags: front, front side-impact and side-curtain airbags.  The front seats are also equipped with seatbelt pretensioners that automatically tighten the belts in the event of a collision, along with active front head restraints actually move up and forward in the event of a rear-end collision, helping reduce whiplash-style injuries.

Aside from the safety features you can see on the interior, the Hyundai Accent keeps you safe with a sophisticated Vehicle Stability Management System.  This incorporates and optimizes the functions of Motor-Driven Power Steering, Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control System, and Anti-lock Braking System in potential collision situations.  It'll help you have more control over your vehicle at the times when you need it most.

EXTERIOR

The Accent brings a long-awaited element of style to the subcompact segment, setting itself apart from the rest of the pack with its sleek Fluidic Sculpture design.  Notable features include a chiseled front fascia, bold rear bumper design and flowing lines from front to back.  Go with the 5-door option and enjoy a snazzy spoiler, the added versatility and convenience of the rear hatch door, and not to mention a longer wheelbase and overall length than most of its competitors.

INTERIOR

The 2012 Hyundai Accent provides plenty of room and comfort for both passengers and cargo, with best in class ratings for both front and rear shoulder room as well as cargo volume.  In fact, the subcompact Hyundai Accent is so spacious inside, the EPA bumped up its interior classification to compact car.  The Accent also makes it easy and convenient to use all the space it provides, with features like a standard 60/40 split fold-down rear seat back and optional overhead sunglass storage, front map pockets with bottle holders, a storage tray, dual front cupholders, a sliding armrest storage console (a segment first) and a front glove compartment.

The Accent also provides a wealth of technology options like steering-wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls, a Bluetooth hands-free phone system, and a premium 172-watt audio system, complete with XM® Satellite Radio and auxiliary input jacks.
