Hyundai first launched the compact Accent in 1995 as a replacement for the Excel, which had achieved moderate success as Hyundai's compact budget car for a full decade. The Accent was available in sedan, hatchback, or coupe with a 1.3-L engine or an upgraded 1.5-L engine. Although marketed in the US as the Accent, it was called the Dodge Brisa in Venezuela, the Hyundai Pony in France, and remained the Hyundai Excel in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Australia. No matter the market, however, the initial Accent was well received as a capable and inexpensive small car. In fact, the Accent achieved record sales numbers in Australia, making it the most successful imported vehicle in the country's history.
The third generation Accent was unveiled at the 2005 New York International Auto Show, boasting a longer, wider and taller design that made it the roomiest of any sedan in its class. It also featured a new engine, a 1.6-L CVVT (Continuously Variable Valve Timing), with a choice of manual or automatic transmission. | 2013 Hyundai Accent More information and pricing on the 2013 Hyundai Accent 2013 Hyundai Accent Hatchback Virtual Showroom 2013 Hyundai Accent Sedan Virtual Showroom 2013 Hyundai Accent Inventory |
