Our last blog post highlighted Chevrolet's appearance in American popular music, but the brand also permeates pop culture with a solid presence in the film industry. Case in point: This summer, moviegoers saw the return of the Chevrolet Camaro as the Autobot "Bumblebee" in the third sequel of the Transformers movie series, Transformers: Dark of the Moon. In conjunction with the movie, Chevrolet is offering the 2012 Camaro Transformers Special Edition for a limited time as a package on 2LT and 2SS Camaro Coupes. The special edition is a close rendering of the Camaro that appeared in the movie, with Rally yellow paint; rally stripes that stretch over the hood, roof, decklid and unique high-wing rear spoiler; 20-inch, black-
painted wheels wrapped in high-performance summer tires; black leather interior accented with yellow stitching; and Autobot Shield logos on the wheels, console, and headrests. It's a head-turning look for movie enthusiasts and sports car fans alike. The Camaro previously played Bumblebee in the first two movies of the Transformers series, Transformers (2007) and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009). These ties to the popular film have helped introduce the Camaro to a whole new generation of fans, which was especially poignant with the vehicle's return in 2009 (for the 2010 model year) after a seven-year hiatus from production.
Whether directly tied to its big screen appearance or not, the Camaro achieved marked success upon its return. It was the most-searched car on the web in 2009, according to Yahoo!Autos, and lead the sports car market in 2010, its first time surpassing the Ford Mustang in 24 years. The Camaro continues to lead the segment in 2011, and is on the fast track for 2012 as well.
