September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and Rogers Auto Group is proud to support Hyundai's Hope on Wheels program to raise awareness and funds for the cause. Hyundai Hope on Wheels started as a small local initiative in 1998, and has since evolved into a nationwide program comprised of Hyundai's 800+ dealers. Every time a Hyundai vehicle is sold at Rogers Auto Group or any other Hyundai dealer in the U.S., a donation is made to Hope on Wheels, with over $43 million total raised so far.In honor of September being National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Hope on Wheels has some very special events planned:
$7.1 million of donations
Hope on Wheels will award a record-breaking $7.1 million of donations to pediatric cancer research projects and programs at Children's Oncology Group institutions across the country. Seventy-one hospital programs in 31 different states and 62 different cities across the country were selected to receive grants of $100,000 each. Four recipients include establishments right here in the Chicago area: Advocate Lutheran General Children's Hospital (Park Ridge, IL), Children's Memorial Hospital (Chicago, IL), University of Chicago (Chicago, IL), and Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine (Maywood, IL). Each grant will go toward ground-breaking research projects for pediatric cancer prevention and treatment.
Hyundai Drive 4 Hope
All throughout September, a Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) will travel the country from coast to coast on its "Drive 4 Hope," presenting grants to hospitals and collecting colorful handprints from childhood cancer patients and survivors along the way. By the end of September, the vehicle will have collected hundreds of handprints from children around the country, each representing a personal story about a child's battle with this deadly disease. You can follow the blog posts and tweets of the 4,500-mile trek at hyundaidrive4hope.com.Hope on Wheels 5K Run & Walk
On September 5 in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, Hope on Wheels hosted the first-ever Hope on Wheels 5K Run & Walk to raise additional funds and awareness of the cause. In addition to the 5K walk, the event also included a Celebration of Life Family Fun Day, complete with face painting, carnival games, arts & crafts and more. This event was an exciting addition to 2011's already ground-breaking year for Hope on Wheels.
