1943 - Rogers Auto Sales
It started in 1943, Rogers Auto Sales was a staple in the Southside neighborhood which is now called the New South Loop. Originally located at 2535 S. Michigan Ave, Rogers provided all of Chicago with a great selection of quality pre-driven vehicles.
The backbone of Chicago's then economy was made up of small family owned business like Rogers Auto Sales. Roger Scher's determination, risk and hard work is the foundation that allowed Rogers Auto Group to survive through three generations. Our satisfied customers is what will keep Rogers Auto Group alive for more generations to come.
Who knew that a small used car lot in the Southside of Chicago would turn into a five franchise Auto Group we now know as Rogers Auto Group in Chicago.
1956 - Acquired Pontiac and became Rogers Pontiac
Rogers Auto Sales enjoyed 13 years of success in Chicago's Southside as a quality pre-owned car dealer. In 1956 Roger Scher had the opportunity to acquire a Pontiac franchise. Rogers' reputation, success and proven track record is what earned Roger Scher this prestigious honor.
During the 50's, Chicago Pontiac was a successful franchise which had just launched the Pontiac Bonneville. A sprawling, stylish cruiser which offered equal measures of performance and luxury. The Pontiac Bonneville was a breakout hit. You can imagine the honor when Rogers was offered the Pontiac franchise.
With Chicagoland success comes satisfied Chicagoans and the necessity to expand. Rogers Pontiac then moved down the street to it's current location on the corner of 28th and Michigan Avenues. Rogers Pontiac had it's new home, 2720 S. Michigan Ave.
1997 - Acquired Hyundai
Rogers Pontiac flourished through the years with muscle cars like the Pontiac GTO and the Pontiac Firebird, but Chicago residents wanted an alternative to the gas guzzling monsters that flooded the market. Then came Rogers Hyundai Chicago. Hyundai Motor Company entered the U.S. Market in 1986 with the introduction of the Hyundai Excel. The Hyundai Excel was an immediate hit with it's supreme affordability being it's primary selling point. Hyundai in the 80's weren't known for quality, but well known for their affordability. As Hyundai started to prepare for the new millennium, Hyundai Motor Company started to invest heavily in new product designs and improvements in overall quality and reliability. Roger Scher's son Monty took this as a great opportunity to offer this newly turned auto maker to Chicagoans who were looking for compact quality as well as affordability. Now Hyundai has won quality awards for each of its models with most recent Hyundai Genesis' North American Car of the Year Award.
1999 Acquired Buick - 2000 Acquired GMC Truck
With success brings opportunity... again. By this time, only 43 years young, Rogers Pontiac was well known all across Chicago, Illinois and Indiana. Since the Scher family established a long standing relationship with the community as THE premier Pontiac dealer in Chicago, General Motors had no problem offering Buick in 1999 and Chicago GMC Truck in 2000 just in time for the New Millennium. The timing was perfect. Chicago Buick, a division of General Motors, have been around since 1903 and already have been known for their luxury and dependability with their flagship vehicles like the Buick Park Avenue and the Roadmaster. And GMC (General Motors Truck Company), another division of General Motors since 1909, well known for their original GMC Suburban. In 2002, Buick launched the Buick Rendezvous.... Buick's first truck based vehicle since 1923 which led the way for award winning vehicles like the Buick Enclave. Also along for the ride comes along the Yukon Denali, a loaded brother to the Chevy Tahoe, the Denali stands out on it's own with it's standard chrome and wood grain features. Owners of a Denali just have to say "Denali" and you'll know the rest.
