New Hyundai Sonata for sale in Chicago, IL
With a selection of three distinct engines and a multitude of trim options choosing your 2018 Hyundai Sonata may sound like a difficult choice, it is not. The distinctive mid-sized sedan is a great value and even more attractive looking now. This year, the entry-level Sonata has a new exterior, some tweaks inside, an eight-speed automatic gearbox, and a new Sports inspired trim. It is not an all-new auto, but it establishes on the redesigned 2017 Sonata with a small injection of passion that should make it stand out once in a crowded arena. The 2018 Hyundai Sonata is available in the SE, the Sport, the Eco, and the Limited trim models, with a choice of three different four-cylinder motors.
There’s not much in the surprise department when it comes to the level of warranty offered, Hyundai has been at the forefront of manufacturer warranties for many years: five years or 60,000 miles bumper-to-bumper, and ten years or 100,000 miles to cover its drive-train.
Drive That Inspires
Most Sonatas to leave the Hyundai’s assembly factory (the SE, the SEL, the Sport, and the Limited trim models) possess 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine putting out 185 horsepower. This moderately large four-cylinder features direct injection to assist fuel economy and improve efficiency, and it sends those horses to the front wheels through a six-speed automatic gearbox. It is smooth and quiet, providing acceptable power. The gearbox moves up and down through the gears smoothly and never seem to seek for the right gear.
- Option up the Sport and Limited models to a two-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine rated at 245 horsepower. This year, it links to a new eight-speed automatic that is tuned to provide somewhat more aggressive, short shifts than the six-speed. Even in its Sports persona, the Sonata is composed and quiet and handles everyday driving tasks exceptionally well.
- All models except the two-liter turbocharged versions have identical suspension and steering settings. They are soft and obedient with natural feeling electric power steering while still able to filter out most road shortcomings.
- The 2018 Hyundai Sonata Sport and Limited models fitted with the two-liter engine have a sports-tuned suspension setup that is noticeably sturdier, but by no means rough.
Infotainment of the Future!
The 2018 Hyundai Sonata’s larger design this year returns excellent room for passengers and their baggage. Passengers in the front seats have a generous view outside and comfortable, height-adjustable seats finished in luxurious trim. The SE, the Eco, and the SEL trim options feature cloth upholstery, while the Sports models have leather bolstering and cloth seat inserts. Only the Limited trim models have full leather upholstery. Rear seat passengers have good legroom and handy air vents and USB ports on most models.
The 2018 Hyundai Sonata possesses good area for small items in its cabin thanks to a large console in the center and big molded pockets in the doors for various drink containers. The trunk is above average in this class having 16.3 cubic feet, and all models have a split-folding back seat that opens up to fit larger items.
The Sonata SE is the gateway to this list, fitted with Bluetooth and a 7″ touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Pay a little extra cash for the Tech Package which will net buyers automatic braking in low-speed emergencies, adaptive cruise control, electronic parking brake, and an active lane control system.
The new-for-2018 Hyundai Sonata SEL has excellent features such as 17″ alloy wheels, heated external mirrors, keyless start, a ten-way power drivers seat, heated front seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
The Sonata Sport adds a moonroof, a black headliner, leather-and-cloth sports seats, and numerous interior and exterior styling touches.
The Sonata Limited highlights leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, LED headlights, and a memory drivers seat. An Ultimate Package adds all the safety features in the SELs Tech Package plus a navigation system with an eight-inch screen, a heated steering wheel, rear-window shades, Infinity speakers, and wireless smartphone charging.
